Magic Pearl is a shadow puppet play performed with live, original music by composer Christopher Vu. Based on the Chinese folktale, “Bright Pearl”, it is a story about collaboration and perseverance.
An interdisciplinary collaboration between flute player Bo Lee and theatre artist Maggie Gayford, Magic Pearl draws on on our personal stories, experiences as performing artists, and our desire to learn more about pioneering new, original music in conjunction with puppet theatre. The puppets and set for Magic Pearl were created by Bo and Maggie from mostly found and recycled materials. Magic Pearl is made possible by the Kenan Fellowship at Lincoln Center Education and New England Conservatory’s Entrepreneurial Musicianship Grant. |
